Use this alphabetical glossary to understand the terms marked in our policies. These explanations help you read the notices; they do not replace a policy, a purchase agreement or a definition in applicable law.
1. Analytics
Tools or methods used to measure activity, such as visits to a website or use of a feature.
2. Beta
A product stage in which features are available to try while development and testing continue.
3. Browser storage
Ways a website can keep information in your browser, including local storage and session storage.
4. Cache
A saved copy of website files that a browser can reuse to load a page more quickly.
5. Chosen name
Your chosen name in Career OS, shown in your onrole.me address. Requesting a name on this website does not guarantee its availability or allocation.
7. Corporate Identification Number (CIN)
A company identification number assigned by the Registrar of Companies in India.
8. CVV
The security code on a payment card. Do not include it in an ordinary support message.
9. Geolocation
A browser feature that lets a website request a device’s location, subject to browser permissions and security restrictions.
10. GPS coordinates
Latitude and longitude indicating a position obtained using satellite positioning. This differs from an approximate area inferred from an IP address.
11. Hosting infrastructure
The servers and network services that deliver a website and handle requests to it.
12. Intellectual property
Rights relating to creations such as writing, software, designs and branding. The type and extent of protection depend on the applicable law.
13. IP address
A network address used to send information between connected systems. It may suggest an approximate area, but is not a precise device location.
14. Licence
Permission to use material or software under stated conditions. Permission to use something does not necessarily transfer its ownership.
15. Local storage
Browser storage that can keep website data across visits until it is cleared or removed.
16. Location data
Information about where a person or device is or may be, such as a location included in an enquiry, device coordinates or an approximate area inferred from a network address.
17. One-time code
A temporary code used to confirm identity or authorise an action. Do not share it in a general support enquiry.
18. Personal information
Information that identifies a person or can reasonably be linked to them, such as a name or email address.
19. Refund window
The period specified for requesting a refund under the applicable purchase terms. A definition does not create or extend that period.
20. Retention
How long information is kept before it is deleted or otherwise removed from active use.
21. Sensitive information
Information that requires particular care because disclosure or misuse could harm someone. Specific legal categories vary by jurisdiction.
22. Service provider
An organisation that supplies a service used to operate the website or handle requests, such as hosting or email delivery.
23. Session storage
Browser storage associated with a website in a particular tab. It is generally cleared when that tab’s session ends.
24. Third party
A person or organisation separate from you and OnRole, such as the operator of an external website.
25. Tracking technologies
Technologies that record activity on a website or across websites. Their purpose and behaviour depend on how they are configured.
